Web site based on the original Shropshire Hills Buylocal database, designed to help people buy local products and support sustainable small scale farming and businesses which contribute to conserving and enhancing the environment.
Making full use of the MS SQL database that holds the information for the much of South Shropshire. Including full search facility and directions to local businesses.
Users can search for local food and drink as well as places where they can eat, stay and enjoy local produce. Designed with CSS and using ColdFusion technology the web site is a full Content Managed System. The administrator can add users and change information on such things as recipes, seasonality, farmers markets, etc.
New members can fill in their own information and update their records, so maintaining an up-to-date database. The database is held on an MS SQL server which is backed up every night.
The web site makes extensive use of Google Maps including providing directions to suppliers and even working out which suppliers are in the local area around your own postcode.
The site incorporates a news and events page and also provides an RSS feed where required.
